Our Studio Approach
No Ordinary House is a boutique interior design and spatial planning studio based in London, specialising in residential renovation and interior transformation projects.
We understand that every home — and every client — is unique. We recognise that people experience their homes in different ways. Thoughtful spatial planning, natural light, storage and sensory comfort can play an important role in creating environments that support wellbeing for everyone.
Our work focuses on helping homeowners rethink how their houses function and flow, carefully considering the architecture, how spaces connect and how each room will be used in everyday life.
Our passion lies in creating designs that are both beautiful and practical. Each project is tailored to reflect the personalities and lifestyles of the people who live there, ensuring the home feels personal, comfortable and enduring.
Wellbeing also plays an important role in our design thinking. Inspired by the principles of biophilic design, we look for ways to strengthen the relationship between the home and the natural environment — through natural light, greenery, tactile materials and thoughtful spatial planning. The aim is to create interiors that feel calm, balanced and supportive of modern family life.
Supporting Crisis With Every Project
Most of us are fortunate to enjoy the comfort and security of a home. For others, however, circumstances beyond their control can lead to temporary accommodation, sofa surfing, or even homelessness.
At No Ordinary House, we believe in giving back. For every project we complete, we make a donation to Crisis — a charity dedicated to supporting people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.
Crisis provides practical, one-to-one support, helping people access benefits, healthcare, employment opportunities and, most importantly, safe and stable housing. Their work focuses on supporting those who struggle to access the essential services needed to prevent or end homelessness.
Through our contributions, we hope to play a small part in supporting this important work and helping people rebuild their lives.

Founder of No Ordinary House
No Ordinary House is a London-based interior design studio founded by Nichola McKerrow Todd, specialising in thoughtful residential renovation.
Nichola studied Architecture in her native Aberdeen before moving to London to pursue a career in financial marketing. After taking time out to raise her family, she returned to her original creative ambitions and retrained in interior design at the Chelsea School of Art.
Her background in marketing and project management has proven invaluable when working on renovation projects, where careful coordination, planning and attention to detail are essential to successfully guide a home through transformation.
Nichola approaches interiors as part of the wider architecture of a house — considering how spaces flow, how natural light moves through a home and how interiors connect to the outdoors. Her work focuses on creating homes that feel calm, balanced and deeply personal to the people who live in them.
The studio’s approach begins with understanding each client’s lifestyle and aspirations, developing bespoke interiors that respect the character of the architecture while introducing warmth, texture and thoughtful design. The result is homes that feel considered, comfortable and enduring.
