The 1930s House project

Step in to the 1930s House project, where we transformed a traditional house into a modern family home filled with light and connection to nature. The full renovation included creating ground floor spaces and basement rooms that are uniquely lit by a courtyard with a feature living wall, providing a harmonious blend if indoor and outdoor for a seamless and tranquil living experience.

The brief was to create a home that feels warm, lived-in, and full of character — a true reflection of the family who calls it home. The clients were clear: they didn’t want a show home, but a space that balances comfort with a sense of drama. A place where everyday life could unfold beautifully, without feeling too precious or staged.

With teenage children, the home also needed to become a natural hub — somewhere their kids would want to gather with friends. Social flow, relaxed seating areas, and welcoming shared spaces were all key to the design intent.

A seamless connection between indoors and outdoors was essential. The garden was to be reimagined as an extension of the home, designed in harmony with the interiors to allow for natural movement and year-round enjoyment.

The clients also brought with them a meaningful art collection, which needed to be thoughtfully integrated into the design. Key pieces would take pride of place, grounding the home in personal history.

Finally, sustainability and sentimentality played a central role. Wherever possible, we aimed to incorporate existing furniture — preserving the family’s story while avoiding unnecessary waste.

The result: a home grounded in feeling, function, and authenticity.
